So just now, as I was lost in the depths that is ABC tv, I remembered suddenly that it was dark out and I needed to put my chickens in! I'd forgotten!
So I go out and check the coop which I'd accidentally left closed, and found three of my babies on the big perch! They had instinctively flown to the big bird perch! I didn't think they could do it! But my two bigger chickens were nowhere to be seen. Maybe I couldn't find them because it was practically pitch black outside but there was no hope in finding them. So I went to my dad, as he was sitting in his office, and asked him for a flashlight. He always has one strapped to his person somewhere so he gave me a silver one off his belt.
Then I went back for a second try to find them but none of the low branches or shrubberies beheld any chickens! I was almost in despair, but said a quick prayer to help me find my beloved, lost chickens. As I was searching the bed of our pick up truck, The Love Train, I heard a quiet squeak, which sounded like my Jasmine! I looked around in the gravel searching for her black and white coloring, but didn't see her. I heard it again, but up higher this time, but there were no trees around so I couldn't figure it out. But then! I looked up at the ladder that dad had left some time ago when we were to "paint" our house, but never actually did, and my two chickens were perched on rungs ten and eleven.
It surprised the crap out of me. In my head I just thought, "What are YOU doing up there?" They looked surprised to see me too.
So I climbed up there in attempt to grab the closest chicken, which was Jasmine, and haul her down. She didn't go down without a fight. She squabbled and flapped her wings and wouldn't go. This is when F2 poked his head out his bedroom window and said, "What are you doing??" And I calmly just said, "Getting my chickens." "Are they on the ladder??" he said. "Yeah." I replied.
So I plucked her from the ladder and carried her off to the coop. Then came back for Mo, one rung higher, and carried her off too. Both surprised to see strange, baby intruders on their perch. So I grabbed the babies off the perch and put them in their own cage.
The instant I saw them on the ladder, I thought, "Grab the digital camera Hannah! This is hilarious looking!" But I thought they needed my rescuing right then and there so I didn't. Sorry folks.
